Avenue Q

Last night Lil Miss J, Bao, Leesh, Mona, Mr. L and I watched Avenue Q, a Broadway musical about a bunch of Muppets who are in no way associated with Sesame Street, Jim Henson or the like.

IT WAS HILARIOUS! Ok, maybe not everyone's piece of cake but if you enjoy political incorrectness, cynicism and puppets having sex, then this is for you. I think this will particularly appeal to those of (who are we?) Generation Y/MTV Generation.

Lil Miss J and Mr. L outside the theatre.

I for one LOVED Sesame Street, The Muppets, Fraggle Rock when I was little (hmm I still enjoy them now hehe) and it was just so enjoyable to see puppets singing songs of a more sinister nature. Come to think of it, had this play been performed entirely with non-puppets it would not have had the same effect.

How can you not enjoy songs like (especially when sung by puppets):
  • What do you do with a B.A in English?

  • It sucks to be me

  • Everyone's a little bit racist

  • If you were gay

and my absolute favourite:

  • The internet is for porn *roar hahaha*

There are a few more musicals out there that I'd like to see but this one gets two thumbs up from me for originality and quashing the perception that musicals are long and boring. YAY! Anyone coming to London? I'll watch it again with you!

Lil Miss J and I outside the theatre. Super cute in her hat

Today I had a bit of wander with Smee around London town. Lunch was in the GRANDEST Nandos restaurant --ever--. Too bad I didn't take photos. It had chandeliers. CHANDELIERS. Maybe I will go back and take pics one day. It's very close to where Bao and Mona are living.

Here are some pics of my trot around.

Me outside the replica Shakespeare's Globe Theatre. I think I shall go back to look at the museum.

A picture of Tower Bridge, kinda far away.

Errr a pic of the skyline. Globe theatre to the right.

Christmas tree outside St. Pauls Cathedral. I wish I was good at photoshop to get rid of that yellow-bibbed guy.

The best night shot I could get of St. Pauls. I could only find a crooked surface to place my camera. Mind you, it was only about 4.30-5pm.

And here's Smee looking warm.

Ok, more photos will come with more things I do!

Dino the Dinosaur

In reference to my previous post about my dinosaur purchase, I thought I'd post some pics up of the newly christened "Dino" (pronounced Deeeno please) the Dinosaur. I am so *creative* when it comes to names.
How can anyone resist that Dino smile?

Oh look, he's made his way to the bed.

Dino and Hippy making friends.

Did I hear someone say 'silly, pointless blog'?

Merry (belated) Christmas!

Well today is Boxing day so my Christmas wishes are a little belated. I would've posted this up earlier except that I was sick yesterday with the runs and the vomits. I ended up sleeping for about 18-20 hours of the entire day! Not sure how I ended up like that but maybe it's got something to do with Smee having the runs the day before and our housemate, Jon also having bowel issues before Smee.

Anyway, I went to the Boxing day sales today. It was CRAZY. It was cold outdoors. It was stuffy indoors. People were everywhere. People were shoving. People were yelling. Women with prams. Clothes all over the place. Shoes all over the place. Ergh. I went into Zara and just got shitty cos there were too many people and there was no way I would find anything in my size, let alone try it on. I ended up buying a jacket (which I desperately needed) and a toy dinosaur (which I didn't need) and wasn't even on sale. Just a horrible atmosphere.

I think I will go to the sales again tomorrow. Hehehehe.

Back to Christmas. Smee got a me a pressie which he hid very well. It looks bigger than what it really is but now I finally have my own bona fide Gucci handbag - yay! Thanks Smee! *muaksei*

On a totally different note, here are some chippies which I am newly addicted to. The Thai spices include lime, ginger and coriander. What really hooks me is that you can really taste the coriander!!!! I have refrained from finishing the packet as an attempt to not overdose on them.

My First London Food Post

The one thing I really love about being in other countries is eating all the stuff that you can't get back at home. Hmmm I'm not sure, but the product below is probably available in Australia but it's my first time eating them so I will assume it's a UK thing!

Rice crackers are meant to be healthy. Chocolate chip coated rice crackers defeats the purpose of buying crackers. So Smee bought them hehehehe. Anyway, they taste really yummy with peanut butter on top - kinda like a Snickers. Smee says he's sick of them, so I guess I'll eat them all in the next few days.

Hello London!

I'M HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yeah, orrite.

My flight into London was fairly uneventful. I didn't lose any baggage, I didn't get mugged and I wasn't hassled by weirdos. Apart from the Melbourne to Sydney leg being delayed - giving me half an hour to go from Sydney domestic to Sydney international and to clear customs - it all went smoothly.

By the time I reached Hong Kong, I still didn't feel I was going to London. By the time I landed in Heathrow, it still didn't feel like the other side of the world. In fact, as the taxi drove off from the airport, I kinda thought, 'Hey, these buildings look like old Melbourne buildings'. The Thames kinda felt like the Yarra (alright so I'm pushing it here a bit) but it only really dawned on me that I was in London when we drove past the London Eye and London Bridge. Oh and the Tower of London too. A huge castle is something I'm not used to.

I arrived 5am and felt like surprisingly ok. I spent the remainder of the day resting with Smee (who hadn't slept all night) and receiving excited emails/sms from Lil Miss J, Bao, Mona and Leesh. Feels like home already! :D

Smee doing what he does best, playing computer games. For those who are interested, he's playing Need for Speed Carbon and just hotted up his Evo IX.

Today, I slept until god knows when (I think 12.30pm) and then had to go and sort out some admin stuff. Then at night I met up with Bao, Mona, Lil Miss J and Mr. L at The Exchange Bar in Chinatown! HOW EXCITING!!! hehehehehehhee.. Leesh couldn't make it cos she was buggered. I go all the way to the other side of the world to do the same stuff that I do back home. hahahahaha

Anyway, there was heaps of squealing and hugging as you'd expect. I kinda wished I took some "London" photos as the ones below could just pretty much be anywhere! Oh well, there will be plenty of time for that!

Lil Miss J and Baoey being silly.

Goodbye Melbourne! / Pancake Parlour *ergh*

For the sake of tradition, my final night in Melbourne was spent at freaking Pancake Parlour *ergh*. Meme, Moo and I shared a banana split. Some of us even ate dinner there!

Anyhow, I'm sad to leave, but excited too! It kinda hasn't really hit me that I'm going to be living on the other side of the world yet. I've travelled so much this year that a plane ride doesn't really feel much different from a car ride. I think the total amount of time I've spent in Melbourne this year has been about 2-3 months max. Looking forward to blogging Europe pictures soon! Until then, toodles!!

An impromptu shot - angry Lymbo.

Meme wanted us to take a photo of her winking. I will punish her by posting this horrid photo. Removal will be considered if presented in writing to this blog.

By the time I get back, Dr. Wong will be a fully fledged orthodontist!

Lymbo and Moi

*sigh* No more Friday night drinks with Meme and J! *sob*

Yep, just being stupid for one more time.

Me being the third wheel between Munabuna and Yetapee.

An artistic shot?

Circle Christmas 2006

Aaaaah that time of year has come again - Circle Christmas time! This year, due to the lack of remaining members, we opted for a lighter, casual affair and decided on a barbecue in Albert Park Lake. We also had to make a few more radiations from the Core Circle or else our par-tay would've been a bit small.
Anyhow the lead up to the BBQ was a bit anxious due to the la-di-da
weather we've been having. But luckily for us, 26 degrees was predicted hence we did not have to consider the yum cha contingency :D Although it wasn't that hot, I absolutely insisted I wear a dress because I wanted to make the most of my summer before London!

The day started (early) for Kahoons at 10.30am as I unfortunately assigned him the responsible role of securing shaded picnic space. Kahoons IS THE MAN!
We got a lovely patch of picnic
area and he arrived 15 minutes earlier than the person next to us. Hehehehe.... A few ppl getting lost here and there but eventually we all made it to the park.

There were a few other asian-based gatherings and although we were prepared, we opted not to have any machete fights. The early arrivals in position above, wanted to challenge them to a Barn Dance. Kahoons! Get back in line!

Moo sneaking an asian pose onto me. Oh wait, that's my asian pose - praying to the phone god.

Awwww someone's doggie.

What to say about the food? Well the food was typical bbq food - sausages (heaps!!), lamp chops, chilli chicken ribs, satay sticks, chicken wings, hamburger patties (just the one), green salad, green apple/asian salad, pasta salad, onions and mushrooms for garnish, sushi, fish, fruit salad, plenty of drinks, all the sauces you can think of and chocolate cake! Did I miss anyone's contribution? Anyhow, it was FAR too much food, despite my worry that we wouldn't have enough!!!!

The snags and chicken ribs.

For all you meat lovers out there, a close up shot.

The only hamburger pattie cooked at the bbq, despite there being several available.

Devouring the only hamburger.

Pictures of us eating:

A few portrait shots courtesy of Tina

Eeek! Alright, the last one was from my camera.

Now, a couple of shots of us playing with the football and frisbee.

Cheerleading on the side is the only way to go, says I.

Clearly Lymbo, Meme and I were enjoying ourselves.

Kris Kringle was made simpler this year - you bring a present, you get a present! This year's theme was 'Stuff you can buy from Borders'.

And here we are with all our presents.

This BBQ also became my farewell with a surprise (well I accidentally saw it) chocolate cake - thanks to Sharon :D. Lymbo and Meme said a few nice words and then I was given the opportunity to say a few words and then I gave the WORST SPEECH EVER. I'm sorry guys, it was just me waffling 'thanks guys' and I think I may have sounded angry too. It was nothing worth clapping for.

Until next year..... where will the next Circle Christmas be????
